We’re living in frenetic times, with the line between the online world and the high street blurring more and more each day. New types of mobile technology are making shopping a richer experience, more convenient and simpler than ever before.
Ecommerce may be booming, but it’s m-commerce, its younger, cooler sibling that’s catching up fast. Ofcom predicts mobile commerce to grow exponentially with £19.3 billion to come from UK mobile retail alone by 2021.
Smartphones now allow us to carry the internet with us wherever we go. They’ve opened up a world of possibilities, fundamentally changing the way we shop. And there’s no turning back. In 2011, PayPal processed $4 billion in mobile payments worldwide. This year, PayPal expects to process $20 billion – that’s a growth of 400% in just 2 years.
The lines between the online world and high street will soon disappear altogether. Research that was carried out amongst major retailers suggest that 2016 will be the year when you won’t need to carry your wallet to shop on the British High Street. A phone will be enough.
